About this deal

Dane Ortlund’s newest book addresses both the need and the desire to go deeper into the Christian life. Dane Ortlund’s most recent study, Deeper, continues a discussion from previous studies such as Timothy Lane and Paul David Tripp, How People Change (2003) and David Powlison, How Does Sanctification Work? A special thank you to Crossway Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review. This book is part of the Union series and the preface states that "Each exploration of a subject in the Union series will appear in two versions: a full one and a concise one.

When I began this book, I was discouraged by the depth of my sin and was despairing of my ability to change. He is currently elder for pulpit supply and interim pastor for area local churches in upstate New York. I sometimes would have to stop and do something else because I could imagine the complete blackness and being 5 miles under ground. They are both under the umbrella of union, but the process of sanctification is also spurred on by a proper recognition of what took place at justification. Drawing on wisdom from figures throughout church history, Ortlund encourages readers to fix their gaze on Jesus in the battle against sin, casting themselves upon his grace and living out their invincible identity in Christ. The real Satan can’t be killed, and he has been waiting since the beginning of time to gain his freedom. When we wonder about what to do with the time we’ve got left and how we can love the Lord Jesus more, you will find the words bringing you back to biblical truths, directing you to gaze wholeheartedly on Jesus.

I have since bought the book for everyone in my church small group and want to come back to it again myself.Seller has stated it will dispatch the item within 1 working day upon receipt of cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab . As it stands, believers could walk away from this volume thinking that their addictive behavior can simply be solved by greater looking to Jesus. To add even more confusion to this review, as I read I thought that I’d really love others to read and be inspired to grow in Christ because of this book. This book makes the case that a believer’s sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the wondrous gospel truths that washed over them when they were first united to Christ. Anyone who has attempted to read the Puritans knows that the content of their books is much like their book titles—unnecessarily long.
