About this deal

It is the second volume of Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy, following Heir to the Empire ( 1991) and preceding The Last Command ( 1993). However, Dark Force Rising takes whatever potential the series may have had and murders it brutally with a lightsaber to the groin. The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord— Grand Admiral Thrawn—has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the Republic's destruction.

We all know, by book three, we'll be like, "Oh, yeah, that's why that was important," but still, while we're reading it, we wonder. He finally had to face off against the Dark Jedi and spent less time drifting around aimlessly in his X-Wing.It's as though you as the reader are constantly being turned towards and winked at every few chapters, in case you forgot you were reading a Star Wars book. THE CONClUSION: Dark Force Rising could have been a lot better, but I still found it to be a good book. Two energy sources were still functioning, one in the central building, the other in one of the outer barracks-style structures. Trying, sir,” the voice came back, tinny and distant through the strange dampening effects of Myrkr’s metal-rich flora.

Here though, we already know these characters and this new setting so the slow pace just makes the first ~100-150 pages boring. While I give credit that the action itself was improved, the outcome was disappointing, and it felt like just the same thing from before- just with all the advantages for the villains OFF SCREEN.Zahn is best known for his Star Wars novels ( Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command, Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future, Survivor’s Quest, Outbound Flight, Allegiance, Choices of One, and Scoundrels ), with more than four million copies of his books in print.

With the aid of unimaginable weapons long hidden away by the Emperor on a backwater planet, Thrawn plans to turn the tide of the battle, overwhelm the New Republic, and impose his iron rule throughout the galaxy. Dark Force Rising follows the structure of the original Star Wars trilogy, as the resurgent Empire forces led by Admiral Thrawn go on the offensive, the Alliance heroes go each on his / her own quest, and in general things get complicated in a way that will set up a big confrontation in the last book of the series. Timothy Zahn is the author of more than forty novels, nearly ninety short stories and novellas, and four short fiction collections. After their adventure with C’baoth Luke and Mara Jade infiltrate the ship posing as TIE fighter pilots and rescue Karrde, the trio escaping on the Millennium Falcon, which Thrawn had captured at some point. While getting more interesting by the end and very entertaining when paired with luke skywalker, the scenes with her and Karrde were snorefests. Luke’s old acquaintance / would-be assassin Mara Jade eventually arrives and thanks to the Force-cutting Ysalamir lizard she brought with her Luke realised C’baoth’s true personality and goals. El personaje de Thrawn me parece muy interesante, aunque me sigue pareciendo exagerado su nivel de acierto en todo lo que hace, incluso cuando falla acierta.

As with Heir, the strengths of the book are Zahn's original characters, particularly Karrde, Mara Jade, and Grand Admiral Thrawn, and his plotting. Timothy Zahn's expert storytelling, combined with intricate character development and strategic battles, makes this book a standout in the series. Yet most dangerous of all is a new Dark Jedi, risen from the ashes of a shrouded past, consumed by bitterness… and scheming to corrupt Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side.

What I mean by this is the story is unexpectedly slow in certain chapters that I first disliked as I'm easily bored. Her impressions of Luke in the present do not mix well with her ingrained hatred of him, making for some really interesting interactions. Carrying on from the look at “Heir to the Empire” a few months ago I continued onwards to Dark Force Rising (and finished it just in time for the new High Republic book to come out!
