It isn’t just a great place for a photo opportunity but the town Como is also a fantastic place if you want to grab something to eat and experience Italian food whilst you’re there (probably one of my absolute favorite cuisines! This story is something I always whip out when people ask the innocent question of, “How did you guys meet? Venice and Cinque Terre are both high up on the list, just now reading your descriptions has prompted it even more!

I was entering college and as a part of my liberal arts and crafts science degree, I had to take two years of a foreign language. Florance Cathedral in Tuscany, Saint Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Santa Maria Della Salute in Florance, Milan Cathedral, Siena Cathedral of Santa Maria in Siena, Pisa Cathedral, Assisi Basilica and Orvieto Cathedral in Umbria, Archbasilica of St. I have been to Italy many times and visited different regions from the North to the South of the country. With its elaborate masks, colorful costumes, and enchanting atmosphere, it transports visitors to a world of fantasy and mystery. Rome, with its ancient ruins and captivating history, is a city that never fails to captivate visitors. Both Neoclassical and Baroque Eras, which dominated the 17th and 18th centuries respectively, began in Rome. I didn’t feel any connection to the places I could choose from based on my major (Communications) and eventually had to choose one at random. But if you really want to learn to speak Italian and create your own phrases of love then it’s a good idea to use a structured program like Rocket Italian.

I love discovering new places through handicrafts, and Italy has a never-ending list of products and techniques to explore and experience: From Murano glass to textiles, pottery, mosaics and costumes. Two months of darting into cafes advertising panini , hoping to breathe in a few seconds of familiarity. I fell in love with Bernini's sculptures at the Borghese and with the restaurants at the end of alleyways, and the 400 year old building we rented an apartment in. Italy is an art lover's paradise, and it's no wonder foreigners can't resist the allure of its rich artistic heritage. Since that first trip, I’ve covered large swathes of Veneto, Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria, Süd Tirol, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo, Sicily, Sardinia, Campania, Puglia and Basilicata by car, foot and public transport; driven along the stunning coasts of the Amalfi and the Cinque Terre; strolled through cities and towns like Rome, Milan, Venice, Verona, Naples, Florence, Siena, Assisi, Lecce and Bologna; and yet, there’s so much more to see and do, so many more culinary secrets to discover and countless wines to taste! With its rich cultural heritage, awe-inspiring history, and mouthwatering cuisine, it is no wonder that foreigners have an enduring love affair with Italy.

Slowly they lit up the string of towns with a peaceful twinkling effect like white lights on a Christmas tree. Built over centuries, starting in the 1300s and only finished in the 1900s, it’s a testament to the city’s will to survive and thrive despite world events. One of the most delicious coffees among these is the caffé correto which is mixed with a splash of alcohol such as grappa (Italian grape-based pomace brandy) or sambuca (Italian anise-flavoured liqueur). If cultural tourism excites you, there is perhaps no other country in the world that has a deeper art history than Italy.

Whether it's a heartfelt conversation with a local in a bustling café or witnessing a lively debate between friends in a piazza, the energy of the Italians is infectious.

A few years ago I would have told you that the last point is the reason why I steered clear of men with Italian roots when it comes to romantic endeavors. In the mountains of the Italian Dolomites, you can sit in an outdoor whirlpool bath at QC Terme near Bolzano and take in the amazing scenery while you leisurely decide which of the 40+ other water treatments to try next.
