About this deal

Just like it says on the tin, it’s a fully functioning mobile phone that’s even smaller than Bill Murray’s role in Zombieland! The handset has a decent – albeit single-lens – 12MP camera too, and a premium (read: metal and glass) if slightly old-fashioned design. The only real negative with the Galaxy S22 is the fact that the battery is actually smaller than its predecessor's, coming in at only 3,700mAh. It supports fast charging only up to 25W, unfortunately, and you have to buy a charger separately since it doesn't come with the phone. It also supports wireless charging up to 15W.

If you want the Google Pixel experience, then you can't go wrong with the Google Pixel 6a. Even though it'll be replaced by the Pixel 7a in the coming months, it's still available for sale and it's still one of the best from Google. It's the smallest Pixel (6.1-inch display) that you can buy, and on top of that, the phone is lightweight, making it comfortable to use for longer periods of time. There's no denying the iPhone SE (2022) has a small screen. Coming in at just 4.7 inches, the Liquid Retina display has a 1334 x 750 resolution (326 ppi) with a 60Hz refresh rate. The phone looks good, though its traditional style, reminiscent of the iPhone 8, might not be to all tastes. That diminutive screen makes it easy to operate the phone one-handed, though, and you get Touch ID integrated into the Home button rather than the now-more-common Face ID. Waiting on an iPhone upgrade? Now is the time to pounce, as the newest additions to Apple's legendary roster were confirmed at its September 2023 event. The belles of the ball this year have to be the upgraded iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models, which have finally received the design update the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max received last year. Now equipped with the Dynamic Island across the hole-punch selfie camera, the gulf between the iPhone and iPhone Pro has lessened again. Palm breadth tells you how wide a phone can be before it falls out of your hand; thumb length tells you how wide a screen can be and still be usable in one hand. According to an old NASA study cited by HealthLine, the average handbreadth is 3.1 inches for women and 3.5 inches for men. The Center for Construction Research and Training estimates are a bit lower: 2.91 inches for women and 3.3 inches for men. A 2012 New York Magazine story cites a US Army study that claims the average thumb length is 2.74 inches for men and 2.49 inches for women. So, that 2.8-inch phone width from LG is just a hair wider than the full reach of the average male thumb. Its power, battery life, and build are all middling, but then this comes in at a middling price, so that’s forgivable. Note also that we’re just talking about the standard Pixel 4a here, not the Pixel 4a 5G, which is slightly too big to make this list. On the downside, the phone only runs Android 6.0, so it's one entire release cycle behind the Unihertz device. These days, there aren't as many small phones around worth considering but they do still crop up from time to time. If you're wondering what we count as ‘small’, to make the list, entries here need to be phones with a screen size of 6-inches or below to count.

All the data shown here is based on the smartphone's basic specifications, which include the phone's weight, width, height, and depth. We have more data available for each smartphone and we might use it in the future for more engaging comparison charts. The Sony Xperia 10 IV is a decent all-rounder for anyone looking for something more slender without making too many concessions. It’s still small though, and there’s a lot to like here – including that display, which uses OLED tech and at 1080 x 2340 is fairly sharp. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a basic camera setup that includes a 12MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP selfie camera. Battery life is markedly better than its predecessor, but it's still only enough for one full day. Also improved on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is wired charging, now cranked up to 25W.

How Big Is Too Big?

The iPhone 13 mini is a rare small phone that's still high-end when it comes to hardware. Its 5.4-inch display is a Super Retina XDR OLED display so it looks great, thanks to some strong brightness levels. It's the same tech as you'd see on the iPhone 13, only smaller.

Instead, it adds on the A15 Bionic chip for speedy performance that can even beat Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU plus it's now capable of timelapse night photography if you add on a tripod. The device itself is 3.5 x 1.77 x 0.31 inches and weighs 7.05 ounces. That's notably more than some of the other phones we've discussed. For the extra weight, you gain improved speakers, Bluetooth support, and dual SIM support.
